Planting Milkweed for Monarchs

In an effort to learn more about providing the endangered Monarch butterfly with sustainable habitat, we came across an often recommended species of flower called Showy Milkweed.  Although this flowering plant is very much suitable for the monarch, research indicates that the plant is not necessarily native to the Revelstoke area – found more commonly on the south coast and south east region in BC.  I wonder how well the seeds will grow in our climate? If you want to find out for yourself, you can order Showy Milkweed seeds from West Coast Seeds.

Be wary of Butterly Bush, as it is a known invasive plant and we would generally discourage people to knowingly plant these in their gardens!
